My Faerie Tale Greek Honeymoon and Wedding

My husband is from Greece and his whole, big beautiful family lives there. In contrast, I have no family to speak of, so when we became engaged it was a given that our wedding and honeymoon would be in Greece. Never having been to the country, nor the ability to speak the language, how on earth was I going to plan a wedding and honeymoon in Greece, from Boston, Mass?

Luckily, my best friend turned me onto this amazing travel agency that specializes in Greek honeymoon and travel. Even better, they are experts at planning weddings in Greece! So I logged on and a short time later, the plans were underway for our Greek honeymoon and wedding. We decided on the Chrysopigi Church on the gorgeous island of Sifnos in the Cyclades. The travel experts took care of everything–down to the last detail.  All we had to do was tell them what we wanted and arrive at the church on time!

Our wedding and honeymoon in Greece were the stuff dreams are made of, thanks to the travel experts and Greek honeymoon and wedding planners. The island of Sifnos, in my opinion, is a fabulous place for a honeymoon. It’s romantic, fill of history, and the beaches, especially Kamares, are breathtaking. At night, there are several nightclubs and bistros for dining and dancing. Clearly, this island has something to offer anyone who wants to spend their honeymoon in Greece. The capital city, Apollonia, is a delight to wander through during the day, filled with quaint shops, boutiques and bistros. There are 365 churches on the island, so of course, there were name day festivals to which everyone is invited. Greeks certainly know how to throw a party!

Thanks again, travel experts, for arranging an exquisite wedding and honeymoon!

Our Mystical Honeymoon in Greece

It was the third time around for both of us, and they say that the third time’s a charm. Let’s hope they are right! So, what better way to celebrate our union than with a romantic honeymoon in Greece? Neither of us had been there before, and always wanted to visit this enchanting country. After pouring over countless atlases and travel guides, we finally settled on Mystras,— a Byzantine ghost town near Sparta—as our Greek honeymoon destination.

Now, all we had to do was arrangeme to get there. Planning a honeymoon in Greece can be a daunting prospect; unless you have the Greek travel gurus on your team! It’s pretty impressive the way these guys know Greece and the Mediterranean region. A friend of mine who travels frequently recommended them, and am I glad he did! They specialize in Greek honeymoons, and all sorts of vacations and cruises, and took care of every detail: from hotel reservations to transportation. I was afraid that Mystras might be a bit off the beaten path, but this agency fixed us right up. No slip-ups or “misunderstandings.”

Well, let me tell you that Greece, and especially Mystras, was the most romantic place we’d ever experienced! The village itself is absolutely charming, and seemingly custom-made for a Greek honeymoon. Ancient stone buildings lined the pathways, and the Byzantine castle and churches lent the village a distinct medieval and otherworldly, ambience. The nearby restaurants are fantastic, and the views of Sparta from the mountaintop is beyond compare. Our entire honeymoon in Greece was truly unforgettable and phenomenal. I cannot thank the Greek travel gurus enough for making our dreams come true!

Our Wedding in Greece

It’s not that we don’t care about our friends and family, but! Rather than a traditional wedding and the hassle it can entail, Marcella and I decided to elope, more or less, and indulge in a wedding and honeymoon in Greece. After researching (and drooling) over all of  the incredible islands of Greece, we decided that Corfu was the one-in-a-million place for us to begin our lives together. Now, all we needed was an expert to plan our Greek honeymoon and wedding.

As far as Marcella and I are concerned, there is only one travel agency that possesses the knowledge, expertise and finesse required to plan our lifetime event: those fabulous wedding planning wizards and Greek honeymoon heroes! We book all of our trips through this agency and they’ve never missed a beat. Transportation, reservations in the finest hotels, tickets to shows, sites and tours–you name it; they can do it–and better than anyone else. It follows then, that they are also whiz-bangs at wedding planning and making arrangements for the perfect honeymoon in Greece.

You would not believe the amazing wedding they planned; complete with a horse-drawn carriage, in the Town Hall of Corfu, in historic Old Town. The Venetian architecture is magnificent! The charming, yet rustic serenades of the street musicians only added to the storybook ambience. Then, our Greek honeymoon could not have been more splendid. The crystal waters of the sandy beaches against a backdrop of lush, vivid greenery of evergreen forests, and  citrus and olive groves–no wonder they call Corfu the, “Emerald Island.” If I had to describe our wedding and honeymoon in Greece in just one word, that word would be Magical.

I cannot thank our trusty travel wizards enough for creating such a memorable, sublime (and affordable!) experience for Marcella and me. We’ll be back!

A Belated Honeymoon in Greece

My parents never had a proper honeymoon. They married young and had no money, then babies started coming and there was no time. Mother would have loved a honeymoon in Greece. She loves to flip through travel books and atlases—and gazes in wonder at images of the Parthenon, Acropolis, the Temples of Zeus, Hera and other mythologicaldeities. Dad would look at them right along with her. You could tell he wished he could make her dream come true. So, for their 30th wedding anniversary my siblings and I decided to pool our resources and send them on the Greek honeymoon of their dreams.

As soon as we got the money together, I went online to find the website of a travel agents my brother-in-law uses when he travels. After providing the details of my suggested itinerary, the plans were in place for my parent’s Greek honeymoon. It was so easy! Plus, the all-inclusive package was not nearly as costly as we expected. Luxury hotel reservations, transportation, tickets to all the venues and sights we selected were arranged and included. It’s not often children get to plan their parents’ honeymoon in Greece!

As you might imagine, my parents were thrilled with their surprise Greek honeymoon. Dad especially enjoyed touring the Plaka District with its intricate network of passages and alleyways. The temple ruins at the ancient agora were also a highlight of their trip. Of course, Mom couldn’t get over the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio. They reported never seeing a more beautiful, and romantic sunset.

All in all, my parents’ honeymoon in Greece was a big hit and a memory they will always treasure. Thanks, Travel Guys, for helping us give our parents a vacation of a lifetime!

Our Honeymoon in Chania

My husband and I had been planning our honeymoon since we were 18. Being childhood sweethearts, we had always known we wanted to have our honeymoon in Greece. I let him decide exactly which part of Greece we would be spending our honeymoon at, and he choose Chania.

It is a beautiful little town of the north west coast of Crete. The minute we arrived, you could feel the relaxing, almost sensational atmosphere. We knew we were in for an excellent Greece honeymoon. We had heard about the sight seeing and shopping, so made sure to explore everywhere possible for the amount of time that we were going to be spending there.
Personally the shopping made my Greece honeymoon amazing. I loved seeing the high-end shops, as well as the little local shops.  I even bought presents for my family back home. Needless to say they were very appreciative of them.
For most of our honeymoon in Greece we traveled around by car. We rented it when we got there and my husband thinks we most likely saved money by doing this, since we did travel around Chania so much.

One of the places we loved visiting regularly during our Greece honeymoon was the Chania Municipal Agora, a vegetable, meat and fish market. The local products were delicious and we even took some back to our apartments so that we could cook and prepare them for ourselves. We had also visited Our Lady Catholic Church, which was built in 1879. The sense of history you get just by standing next to these fantastic buildings is memorizing.

I can say that we had been correct along. Having our honeymoon in Greece was the perfect idea. We have also decided that we will definitely be returning for our 5-year anniversary.

Honeymooning in Crete

We knew we did not want to have a boring honeymoon, just lying around doing nothing, wasting our energy. Therefore we had to choose the right destination, and after a long thorough evaluation of different countries that had hot climates during the summertime, we decided to have our honeymoon in Greece.
You may have heard of Chania before, as it is a well-known lively city in Crete. After reading that is was not for the faint hearted, we knew it was the right place for our Greece honeymoon.
When we first arrived at our hotel, we were extremely happy. The room was stunning with a very comfortable bed. We had breakfast every morning that was delicious, however my husband did not enjoy it so much, but he is very fussy when it comes to food. What we both enjoyed was eating out at night during our honeymoon in Greece, as the steakhouses were very tasty.
One of the main attractions of Chania for us during our Greece honeymoon was the main strip, which is known as “party central” during the summer time. The clubs were very fun, with the drinks being cheap. This was great for us, as we did not have a lot of money to spend during our honeymoon in Greece.
We socialised quite a bit. Meeting another couple roughly around the same age as us, whom were also on their honeymoon. It was great being able to share our honeymoon in Greece for others. This did not take away from the romantic side, as we still made sure to take strolls on the beach during sunset and even had quite a few glasses of champagne after.

Our honeymoon in Greece

One of the reasons why we wanted to have our honeymoon in Greece, Heraklion, was because it’s the capital of the largest Greek island of Crete. I wanted to see the beauty of Heraklion in person, as I felt the pictures I had seen could not of been doing it justice.
Of course I also wanted to top up my tan during my honeymoon in Greece and Heraklion was a perfect place, as it is known for its Mediterranean climate. The clear skies were breath taking and something I wish I could experience every day at home.
We arrived there by plane, travelled throughout the city by bus, all being extremely comfortable journeys.  We visited a lot of landmarks, which were very romantic, such the Venetian Walls. The atmosphere was perfect during our Greece honeymoon. My favourite viewing of the whole honeymoon in Greece was the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, and my husband agrees. There are finds from the Minoan civilisation and excavations across the island of Crete, just drenched in history. It is known as one of the world’s great museums, embodying vanished history.  All of this just made our Greece honeymoon feel extra special. The Heraklion Summer Arts Festival was also amazing. We did not even think we would attend it, but we were having so much fun visiting everything that Heraklion had to offer during our Greece honeymoon that we felt we might as well. The decision was smart, as the festival has made us want to return with your children next year. We know they will love it and it will be nice to have them with us for a family trip, as we did miss them.

Our honeymoon in Thessaloniki

For our second time getting married, we choose to have our honeymoon in Greece, as it was a very special occasion. Together we choose the second largest city in Greece, Thessaloniki. About a million people live there so it was quite busy, but I loved it. One thing that I knew I wanted from my Greece honeymoon was never to be bored.
Thessaloniki is known for its festivals, which was exciting. I made sure to research the events that would be available for honeymoon in Greece. However we also wanted to go in educational outings during our honeymoon in Greece, making sure to learn something about the ancient culture from where western civilisation stems from.
The Byzantine churches built between the 5th and 14th century ACE where amazing. We made sure to take lots of photographs to show the kids and our friends back home, it was breath taking.  My husband had really wanted to visit the Museum of Cinematography in Thessaloniki, which I thought was interesting, however we didn’t stay for very long.
The international book fair was great. Being held at the waterfront it was very pretty. We stayed there for a few hours and purchased some books to read for our journey back home.  Overall our honeymoon in Greece did not cost a lot. We made sure to search for fairly priced but still beautiful hotels. This was necessary for us, as we did not have a big budget.
Waking up to the gorgeous beaches of Thessaloniki were what made our Greece honeymoon perfect, the crystal blue waters and white sands made me not want to leave, but of course we had to.

Our second time visiting Greece

We had been to Greece when we younger, before we even had got engaged. We loved it so much we knew we had to return. Therefore nothing could be more special to us than having our honeymoon in Greece. I had wanted to travel to Rhodes for quite some time, and my husband agreed that it would be a great location.

We knew Rhodes is popular, therefore made sure to plan every detail of our Greece honeymoon. We did not leave a minute to spare. From day activities to night-time activities, we were prepared. Personally I was more excited for the educational visits, as it is no secret that Rhodes is enriched with history,

The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights was stunning and something I will never forget about our honeymoon in Greece. The Archaeological Museum was great to see during the visit, and we were allowed to take photographs, which was prefect. Sharing our Greece honeymoon experience was very important to us.

We had plenty of walks through the medieval city, which were every romantic and made our honeymoon in Greece feel perfect. We also shopped at the New Market, which was fun as we interacted with the locals and they were very friendly.

We were able to splurge on this trip as we had been saving for quite sometime before our wedding, and it was worth it. We stayed at a stunning five star hotel and were able to order whatever we liked when we ate out at restaurants. Overall our honeymoon in Greece was great, and we came back home feeling more in love than ever.
